Denmark gets a new ambassador, an ambassador for sound. The prestigious title comes with the award "Magnavox, - Danish Sound Ambassador 2019", which will be awarded on Wednesday 9 October in connection with Danish Sound Day 2019, at Aalborg University Copenhagen. The prize and title go to the Danish comedian Anders Matthesen.
The Ambassador Award is a newly established award and behind the award is the industry network Danish Sound Network and Struer, Lydens By. The award will be presented to Anders Matthesen on Wednesday 9 October in connection with the conference Danish Sound Day 2019. This is the fifth year in a row that the sound industry is holding Danish Sound Day, but for the first time a Sound Ambassador has been appointed. The award must be seen as a supplement to the Danish Sound Award (Dansk Lydpris), which is awarded to a person or company that works specifically to strengthen the industry. But this year, Struer Municipality has chosen to supplement the existing award with an ambassador award, to mark the importance of good sound among the entire population.
The big voice
The newly established Magnavox Prize - Danish Sound Ambassador Prize 2019 is named after the name of the first invented speaker Magnavox, which also had a Danish touch. It was actually the Danish engineer, Peter Laurids Jensen, who in 1915 invented the first loudspeaker: the Magnavox loudspeaker - or the big voice as he also called it.
Sound has always played an important role in Anders Matthesen's work
A few years ago, Anders Matthesen focused on sound and noise in the public space with the one-man show ”shh”. Anders Matthesen has always emphasized good sound as extremely important for his work. In the sparse free time, sound is also an important element, as Anders Matthesen relaxes by making music and beats.
Already as a 12-year-old, there was "sound on" Anders Mattesen when he started rapping. Since then, his career has taken him far. As a stand-up comedian on Denmark's stand-up stages over to plays, Christmas calendars and comics.
This is the fifth year in a row that the sound industry is holding Danish Sound Day, but this is the first time a Sound Ambassador has been appointed. The award must be seen as a supplement to the Danish Sound Award (Dansk Lydpris), which is awarded to a person or company that works specifically to strengthen the industry.
In addition to the ambassador award, you can experience on Danish Sound Day, three keynote speakers, thematic presentations on Sound and music, AI and Sound, Noise and Sound and health, pitch battles for entrepreneurs and researchers in sound.
The day is organized by the Danish Sound Network and the program can be viewed at: https://danishsoundcluster.dk/danish-sound-day/program/
It is no coincidence that Struer Municipality is behind two sound awards. Struer works purposefully to position itself as the City of Sound. A city where sound permeates business, culture, urban development and events. Thus, Struer has just inaugurated a development environment for sound companies, the municipality hosts a sound art festival and at the same time the sound is used actively in everything from urban development to teaching in schools.
