In the early 1950s, Gunnar Rasmussen started his career as an audio engineer at the Danish audio pioneers Brüel & Kjær. He designed the company's first sound intensity analyzer and first SoundLevel meter. In 1957, he developed the first of B & K's line of professional microphones, a simple but revolutionary design for measurements. Over the years he obtained an international status as “Mr. Microphone ”. When Gunnar Rasmussen in 1993, against his will, was retired by the company, he decided at the age of 67 years to become a business entrepreneur. Started developments of microphones in his kitchen and in 1994 established the GRAS company together with his wife Hanna and two sons, Per Rasmussen and Peter Wulf-Andersen. During the following 20 years he developed a broad line of measurement microphones and support accessories for sound measurement for a variety of applications in aerospace, automotive, and consumer industries. When retiring at the age of 87 years, Gunnar Rasmussen handed over the company to his two sons. The company continued to grow and in 2020, the company had reached about 120 employees and well over 100 mio. DKK in turnover. At that time, the GRAS company was acquired by a US Capital Foundation and has since been part of Axiometrix Solutions together with Audio Precision and IMC Test & Measurement GmbH.
