Network for IP strategy and patents

Get started with patents and rights - for smaller audio companies and startups

There is no doubt that it is the smaller technology companies that drive the majority of the innovation. But how do you best take care of your inventions and take advantage of your market advantage? Patents are a key concept in this context. The work with patents still seems to be downgraded in many tech companies, also in the audio industry, and if you get started, it is often on the back burner. Understandably, the reasons are the short-term prospects of finding customers and investors, and moreover that many business leaders and founders lack the knowledge and skills to get started on the task.

In the network group, we address how SMEs or startups can use patents to protect inventions and secure the business. We also look at the processes and the organization behind the work with IPR.

Audience:

Since smaller companies have rarely appointed a patent attorney, you can be a specialist, department manager or business owner in a sound technology company. You can also be a researcher and work on commercializing your or someone else's innovation. The most important thing is that you work or are going to work with patent rights, are looking for inspiration from outside, and also want to share your knowledge and experiences from the field.

Contents:

  • What is a patent? What are the requirements for obtaining patent protection? What can be patented and what can not? Is there a difference between patenting methods, devices and software?
  • What difference can a patent make in a commercial context, and what perspectives can there be in terms of attracting investors?
  • How do you work with patents and IP rights if you as a company do not have a separate patent expert? Is there a need to lay out an IP strategy?
  • What can you do yourself and when should you seek advice from external advisors? What are the steps in the process of applying for a patent, and what time horizons should one imagine?

You get it from participating:

  • A greater insight into the common, professional issues associated with the work with patents and IPR
  • A strengthened professional network in the audio industry
  • Professional sparring and exchange of experiences with like-minded people
  • Inspiration from how other patent attorneys work with and organize their tasks

Send your expression of interest to Murielle De Smedt, mds@danishsound.org, and you will be notified when there is enough connection for us to start the group.
