Sound is not a “nice-to-have.” Sound is not something you add without careful consideration and expert insight. It is an inseparable, essential part of our lives. Why? Because extensive research and experience show that bad sound and noise lead to bad experiences – ultimately causing stress, hearing loss, and adding to cognitive decline and health issues. That’s why we work every day to raise sound awareness and improve quality of life for future generations.

As a member organization, we facilitate collaboration and partnerships across the audio, acoustics, and hearing sound industry and its associated knowledge and research environments, while strengthening professional networks.
Danish Sound Industry
The Danish sound industry consists of 600 companies, where sound is the primary or a significant part of their strategic focus. The industry employs 52,000 people, generates annual revenue of DKK 70 billion, and exports for more than DKK 60 billion, corresponding to 2-3% of Denmark’s total exports.
The sound sector is among four (out of 11) Danish technology sectors (according to ATV’s analysis) that score above the average in terms of patents and scientific publications internationally, highlighting Denmark’s strong position within sound. Read more in our latest industry analysis.
Sound technology is therefore one of Denmark’s strongest tech sectors, contributing to quality of life for people around the world. Our community and industry has three main focus areas:
Audio – Technology, software and hardware such as speakers, headphones, hearables, and microphones.
Acoustics – Acoustics technology, room, environmental and urban acoustics.
Hearing – Sound perception, audiology, hearing loss treatment and clinical use of sound.
Education
The foundation of the Danish sound industry is a long-standing tradition of research and education across a range of fields, including acoustics, audiology, electrical engineering, building and sound design, and digital signal processing.
For more than 100 years, Danish research has been at the forefront, and today this is reflected in the fact that more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at Danish universities and university colleges include sound as a key component – see overview.
