User study of new audio device

Project title

User study of new audio device

Description:

There is a growing need for intuitive learning products that can allow people of all ages to better comprehend and learn about programming. Daisy Dub is a high-quality audio effect device, designed to satisfy this need. Through this project, we will focus on user interactions and learning experiences that revolve around our unique DIY (“Do-It-Yourself”) product. Daisy Dub not only motivates users to build their own hardware kit with ease, but also opens up for the possibility of modifying the software via open source technology. Daisy Dub is intended to serve as an engaging, musical device that encourages users to create and share their unique music algorithms, thereby unlocking a myriad of learning opportunities.

To gather user feedback and assess the product’s learning potential, we have organized several DIY workshops in partnership with institutions such as Erhvervsakademi Aarhus, Beats by Girlz Denmark, IDA Embedded and Rumkraft. These workshops serve as an introductory platform where users will assemble the hardware without any need for in-depth soldering or electrical engineering experience. We want to provide an inclusive “shake and bake” experience, where anyone with a interested can take part.

Our project aims to spark curiosity. Daisy Dub – right out of the box – is a playable audio effect (currently a tape delay) with an array of I/O for sound control (audio/midi). Besides being an audio effect, it also functions as a physical interface for people to develop their own algorithm/logic, similar to products like Arduino or Teensy. This hackable approach resonates with a younger audience accustomed to interacting with hardware and curious about diving into technical aspects.
