Danish Sound Day 2024

Sound & Acoustics in Architecture & Room Design
5 November 2024

Welcome!

We are thrilled to invite you to Danish Sound Day 2024 at the Royal Danish Academy. The conference will gather researchers, innovative tech experts, entrepreneurs and sound professionals from across the sound community. Join us for an engaging day of exploring sound and acoustics in architecture and room design.

It is well known that poor room acoustics and unhealthy sound environments can lead to serious health implications and cognitive impairment. However, despite years of research and WHO recommendations, acoustic consideration and implementation is often overlooked or underprioritized in design and building practice. Why is that the case, and what can we do to change it?

The Royal Danish Academy is the ideal setting for presenting leading voices in the field of acoustics, architecture and human sound perception. Besides talks and debates, there will be company demos, guided tours, startup & research pitch presentations and plenty of networking opportunities.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with professionals from every corner of the sound field. We look forward to seeing you there!

Location:
Royal Danish Academy, Philip de Langes Allé 10, 1435 Copenhagen K

Acoustics & psychoacoustics

In this day and age there are many technologically advanced algorithms and AI tools to predict and simulate the acoustics of a room not yet designed or built, which can be helpful in the planning process. But are there any conflicts between calculating the acoustics and the actual experienced acoustics and affect the room will have on us?

Moderator Pascal Van Dort will question and investigate the correlation between acoustics and psychoacoustics.

Designing Sound Environments

To ensure a healthy and pleasant acoustic environment all you need to do is absorb reflections and reduce noise, right?

With Thea Larsen at the helm we will be exploring acoustic sound design and ideals, what sonic aim to take, and if adding sound can be utilized to balance noisy sound environments.

Merete Kinnerup Andersen, Strategic Urban Lead at Cobe Architects

Working with sound in a larger urban context, Merete Kinnerup Andersen, Strategic Urban Lead at Cobe Architects, integrates urban development and design to enhance quality of life in the city. In her daily work, she focuses on creating urban environments and spaces that enhance quality of life, including the acoustic environment. While she is not an expert in acoustics, she sees sound as a crucial element of urban design, where the right soundscape can contribute to a healthy and pleasant experience of the city. The discussion on designing sound environments opens up new ways of thinking about sound in urban spaces and how it can be used to balance noisy environments.

Christopher Barlow, Head of Research & Innovation at KP Acoustics

Head of Research and Innovation at KP Acoustics, offering Research, Product Testing and Education in Acoustics, and helping companies with product development and staff training, as well as partnering with academic institutions for research projects and knowledge transfer.

Acoustics in Practice and Process

We know that unhealthy acoustics and noisy sound environments are harmful to our health and causes well-being decline. But why are sound and acoustics still being under prioritized in many cases?

Moderator Liselotte Lyngsø and her expert panel will be shedding light on the building industry; questioning how to optimize the process and ensure acoustic consideration throughout the architectural planning and building process.

Moderated by Liselotte Lyngsø

Louise Drengsgaard Jørgensen, Architect at Olav de Linde
