Did you know that the sound industry accounts for 2.5% of the total Danish GDP? Torben will kick-off Danish Sound Day with a fresh overview on the state of the nation. This talk will provide the community with a tangible data analysis on where the Danish sound industry is now and serve as inspiration on envisioning where we are heading.

Understanding Hearing: Beyond Technology

Modern hearing technology provides valuable support to people with hearing loss. Yet, why do so many hearing aids end up in drawers? And why are so many people with hearing loss still struggling in important communication situations? In this presentation, we will hear from people with hearing loss what matters to them and why good hearing is a matter of utmost importance – to them, their communication partners, and society at large. We will look beyond technology and discuss how a holistic, person-centered approach to hearing care can help people with hearing loss make the most of their technology and improve communication in daily life.

Sonic Citizenship

The relation we have with sounds around us and our everyday soundspaces can be complete chaos and a cacophony of messy noises – while at the same time, a very fragile relation too. Marie and Morten have created a framework around this complex and invisible yet audible and present phenomena, and they call it Sonic Citizenship. In a time where COVID has hit the landscape and retracted all beings into isolation, even though the city streets have been more silent than ever, our daily lives on Zoom are still experienced as a rather messy and fragile everyday soundscape, that does not feel silent – rather quite noisy and stressful. This talk will help us reflect in new ways about our soundscapes, defining a framework and practical examples, so we can one day live our sonic lives in a more sustainable, harmonious and responsible way.

Objectively speaking – what is good sound quality?

Some (still) say that sound quality cannot be measured. Meet Sean Olive who had the courage to invest many years of his life researching some of the tough questions that many audio professionals would be reluctant to even talk about. With an unparalleled obsession in this field, Sean has proven many of us wrong of what we thought was good sound quality. He has contributed with new useful, objective tools that are at the reach of all headphone manufacturers today. This exciting talk will take us through Sean’s journey and research. He will share his learnings, what still needs to be done and which challenges we are facing.
